Anyone
seeking respite from Zouk in Jalan Ampang may want to
pop over the Lobby Lounge of the newly-refurbished
Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur, just across the road.
Singer Clair Vanessa Rozells (left) combines the pop style
of Norah Jones, with the expressive, velvety tones of Sarah
Vaughn. Her vocal interpretations of jazz, evergreens and
contemporary ballads fit nicely with the flowing waters and
bamboo themed Hotel Maya which touts itself as an "urban
boutique resort" |
|
Rozells, 27, shows her versatility with
songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong,
Nat King Cole,
the Beatles, The Bee Gees and Alicia Keys.
She has performed professionally for over eight years, and once
front-lined legendary band, The
Strollers. She is also the daughter of Penang-based music veteran
James Rozells, who runs a popular country and western outlet in
Batu Feringghi. |

 |
At Hotel Maya, she is backed by Ross Ariffin (left), a
multi-award winning pianist/composer who has written over 200 songs for
Fauziah Latiff, Ning
Baizura, Siti Nurhaliza and Aishah. Ariffin also croons smooth renditions of timeless classics like Barry Manilow’s Even Now and Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman .
Rozells and Ross perform from 9.45 pm to 12.30 am, from Monday to Saturday, at the Lobby Lounge, Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur, 138, Jalan Ampang.
